Support
Quick answers for the most common setup and troubleshooting questions in Lingo Gapfy.
Getting Started
- How do I start an exercise?
- Open a YouTube watch page, make sure the video has subtitles, click the Lingo Gapfy icon in your toolbar, and click “Start Exercise.”
- How do I pin Lingo Gapfy to the toolbar?
- Click the puzzle icon in the top-right corner of Chrome, then pin Lingo Gapfy so it stays visible in your toolbar.
- Do I need an account?
- No. You can install the extension and start practicing without creating an account.
- Where should I use Lingo Gapfy?
- For now, use it on desktop Chrome on a YouTube watch page.
If the Exercise Doesn’t Start
- Why does the popup say “Open a YouTube video first”?
- The popup only becomes ready on a YouTube watch page. Open a regular YouTube video page first, then open Lingo Gapfy again.
- Why does the popup say “Preparing YouTube”?
- Lingo Gapfy is still waiting for the YouTube player to finish loading. Give the video a moment, then try again.
- Why can’t I see “Start Exercise”?
- First open a YouTube watch page. If the popup is still loading, wait until YouTube is ready. Once the page is ready, the popup will show the start action.
- Why isn’t the exercise showing on my video?
- Make sure the video is on YouTube, the page is fully loaded, and subtitles are available for that video. Lingo Gapfy needs subtitle data to create the exercise.
Subtitles & Video Requirements
- Do subtitles need to be turned on?
- Yes. If subtitles are off, Lingo Gapfy will ask you to open the YouTube player settings, turn on “Subtitles/CC,” and choose a subtitle language.
- Does Lingo Gapfy work on videos without subtitles?
- No. Lingo Gapfy turns subtitle lines into exercises, so it needs subtitle data from the video.
- Does it work outside YouTube?
- No. The current version is built for YouTube watch pages.
- Does it work on every YouTube page?
- Use it on normal YouTube watch pages. Other YouTube surfaces are not the main supported flow.
During Practice
- What does “Replay” do?
- Replay plays the current subtitle line again so you can hear the phrase before filling the gaps.
- Why are some subtitle lines skipped?
- Some subtitle lines may not produce usable gaps. Depending on your settings, Lingo Gapfy can skip subtitle lines without gaps automatically.
- Why does the video resume automatically?
- Lingo Gapfy can resume the video automatically after you complete all gaps. You can change that behavior in the popup settings.
- Can I change exercise behavior?
- Yes. The popup includes settings for auto-resume and for skipping subtitles without gaps.
Translation
- Why doesn’t translation appear?
- Translation controls only appear when the current browser and language pair support translation. If the control does not appear, that pair is not available right now.
- Why do I see translation on some videos but not others?
- Translation depends on the subtitle language, your interface language, and browser support for that pair. Some combinations are available, and some are not.
- Can I force translation to appear?
- No. If the browser reports that the current language pair is unavailable, Lingo Gapfy hides the translation controls.
Limits & Compatibility
- Does Lingo Gapfy work on mobile?
- No. The current support flow is desktop Chrome.
- Does it work in browsers other than Chrome?
- Install and use Lingo Gapfy through the Chrome Web Store flow. If you want the supported setup today, use desktop Chrome.
- Does the extension show ads or require payment to start practicing?
- No. The current product messaging is free to use and has no ads inside the extension.
